چکیده

BACKGROUND Evaluation of bond strength and microleakage caused by polymerization shrinkage provides a screening mechanism and an indication of the potential for the clinical success of composite restorations. AIM The aim of this study was to determine the effect on shear bond strength and microleakage of standard and expired composites. MATERIALS AND METHODS Selected specimens were etched using 37% phosphoric acid for 15 seconds and were randomly divided into four groups. Group I: Standard composite and bonding agent; group II: Expired composite and bonding agents; group III: Standard composite and expired bonding agent; and group IV: Expired composite and standard bonding agent. Specimens were further subdivided into two subgroups. In subgroup A, specimens were sheared with a universal testing machine, and the results were calculated in MPa; in subgroup B, specimens was sectioned longitudinally and analyzed for leakage (dye penetration) using a stereomicroscope. RESULTS The results of the present study showed that acceptable values for bond strength and microleakage were obtained even if one of the components of the dental resin composite is expired. CONCLUSION In Indian scenario, the expired composite material may provide some assistance in compromised clinical situations. It can be used as an interim restoration and compensate for the high material cost. HOW TO CITE THIS ARTICLE Talreja N, Singla S, Shashikiran ND. In vitro investigation and evaluation of dentin bonding agents.

The development of dentin bonding agents has made the adhesion between composite restorative resins and dentin possible. Laboratory studies involving microleakage and bond strength tests are carried out to predict the longevity of composite resin restorations in the clinical situation. Microleakage at the restoration/tooth interface may result in breakdown at the margins of restorations, the de...

Microleakage of Composite Resin Restorations Using a Type of Fifth and Two Types of Seventh Generations of Adhesive Systems: A Comparative Study

Introduction: In recent dentin adhesive systems etching of enamel/dentin are achieved simultaneously. The objective was to evaluate the microleakage of composite restorations using Single Bond2 (5th generation), Clearfil S3 Bond and G Bond (7th generation). Methods: Class V cavities were prepared on  45 extracted intact premolars with gingival margins at the cementoenamel junction and they were...

Microleakage comparison of three types of adhesive systems versus GIC-based adhesive in class V composite restorations

Background and aims: New dentin bonding agents and techniques have been developed to reduce microleakage and create higher bond strength. This in-vitro study compared the microleakage of three resin-based adhesives versus a GIC-based adhesive on class V composite restorations.  Materials and Methods: Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces of 72 sound premolars, randomly assigned ...

بررسی اثرکامپوزیت Light Cure و کامپوزیت Self Cure بر باندگلاس آینومر نوری به عاج دندان (In-vitro)

Statement of Problem: Composite reins have recently become popular for posterior teeth restorations. Gap formation and subsequent microleakage are of the complications resulting from such restorations. One of the techniques to overcome polymerization shrinkage of composite resins is sandwich technique (application of glass ionomer as a base beneath the composite resin). Since polymerization pat...
